Dear Irrfan Khan,
India will miss you !
That day, I woke up two hours late feeling that it was going to be just another day, where I wake up , have a meal and work from home or rather slog in front of my laptop for almost 8 to 9 hours, feel exhausted, spend the rest of the time with family and friends and go back to sleep. But that day wasn’t the same.
I wished that when I heard the news of this great actor passing away , I had time to reflect on his life, read all the Instagram posts people shared and wanted to learn why everyone of us felt like it was a personal loss. I regretted waking up two hours late the entire day.
This loss felt so personal. We all felt a lump, a brokenness and a little bit of a shock . Despite the fact that we all never met him, we share a distance closeness with him, because he was our common people’s actor. He belonged with us, ARTIST OF THE MASSES.
It felt so personal, may be because we are always in awe of stories and story tellers. We are fascinated by them. And Irrfan was one such story teller. He made us feel like he is one amongst us, just a common man, doing what he can do best. He would act like he shared the skin and bones of the character he’s played. His performance kept us engaged and connected with the story.
He made us all feel like he left us too soon, even after working in a ton of T.V shows, Bollywood and Hollywood movies. Well, we get that feeling because we are not done yet, may be we are not done with the charisma he brings to the screen, with the stories he told us before. We are not done with looking at ourselves in the stories he showed us. We are not done yet Irrfan. We are not done yet with the wholesome performer that you are.
I pray and hope that you find peace where ever you are Dear Irrfan, you may have retired bodily, but your soul will always be felt through the stories you shared with us. Because, you were all ART and ART, my friend, knows no retirement.
Much Love,
Pooja Durgi
