Hey fellow hustler,

If you are seriously tired and unmotivated at your workspace and are planning to switch, you are going to find this post very helpful. I follow a lot of career coaches on my Instagram account and have taken a ton of free webinars ( Mostly Non-salesly and informative) on careers. I have realized that most content in all these webinars, blogs, and videos is the same.

So, I would urge you to stop looking for tips from tons of content because I have literally done your homework. Follow these 5 steps to building an amazing resume on any of the free resume builders online( because you can spend less time on formatting ) and make yourself job-ready! :)

  1. Customize your resume for every job you apply for:

When you apply for different jobs on various job portals like Linkedin etc, you need to literally keep in mind that one size/shape doesn’t fit all. You need to maintain a tracker and customize your resume for each job you apply for. Pick the keywords from the job description and try to apply them to your resume in alignment with your previous experience.

2. Keep it simple stupid

Follow the Kiss formula and keep it really simple and readable. Keep in mind that your resume should not be high on vocabulary but high on your skills. Unless you have decades of experience try to limit your resume to one page.

3. Effective Description

In the description you need to talk about the kind of opportunity you are looking for and why you think you can justify the role. Think of all the ways you can add value to the role from your previous experience.

4. Positioning most relevant experience first

Prioritize the relevant experience that fits the role on the resume first. The first two-three projects you list on your resume should give the recruiter an idea that you are well-fit for the role.

5. Use specific numbers/metrics wherever necessary

Try to replace the words like many with a specific number/metric. For instance,” collaborated with 11 teams for product management and delivery” catches eyeballs instead of,” collaborated with many teams”.

Another example- Increased organic traffic by 40% within a span of 4 months from joining the team.

I hope you keep these 5 tips in mind while you are building your resume. Make sure you are specifying valid credentials ( Email, phone number, etc) in your resume. I have gained a lot of benefits by following these steps for my resume, I hope you find them helpful too. If you need a resume tear-down as one of my upcoming posts, do let me know in the comments or any of my socials.

Much Love,

Pooja Durgi
